Stuff I like to Read to Kush: Kush's Blog

RSS
Image via Wikipedia

I am putting together a list of top 500 Blogs on –

Some additional points-

  • I like YCombinator‘s Hacker News– so the auto parsed links are like that on main page. They lead to original websites.
  • Comments are disabled, feed is jumbled, only 40 word excerpts are shown.
  • Intent is also to show open source blogs and enterprise blogs at same time (regardless of advertising by vendors 😉 )
  • If your blog feed is there, I will keep it there – either dont write or dont use RSS if you dont want to share
  • If your blog feed is not there, it is probably not there for a reason.
  • No ads will be shown NOW or FOREVER on that site.

And after all that noise- you can see Kush’s Blog –http://www.kushohri.com/

Enterprise Linux rises rapidly:New Report

Tux, as originally drawn by Larry Ewing

A new report from Linux Foundation found significant growth trends for enterprise usage of Linux- which should be welcome to software companies that have enabled Linux versions of software, service providers that provide Linux based consulting (note -lesser competition, lower overheads) and to application creators.

From –

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-media/announcements/2010/10/new-linux-foundation-user-survey-shows-enterprise-linux-achieve-sig

Key Findings from the Report
• 79.4 percent of companies are adding more Linux relative to other operating systems in the next five years.

• More people are reporting that their Linux deployments are migrations from Windows than any other platform, including Unix migrations. 66 percent of users surveyed say that their Linux deployments are brand new (“Greenfield”) deployments.

• Among the early adopters who are operating in cloud environments, 70.3 percent use Linux as their primary platform, while only 18.3 percent use Windows.

• 60.2 percent of respondents say they will use Linux for more mission-critical workloads over the next 12 months.

• 86.5 percent of respondents report that Linux is improving and 58.4 percent say their CIOs see Linux as more strategic to the organization as compared to three years ago.

• Drivers for Linux adoption extend beyond cost: technical superiority is the primary driver, followed by cost and then security.

• The growth in Linux, as demonstrated by this report, is leading companies to increasingly seek Linux IT professionals, with 38.3 percent of respondents citing a lack of Linux talent as one of their main concerns related to the platform.

• Users participate in Linux development in three primary ways: testing and submitting bugs (37.5 percent), working with vendors (30.7 percent) and participating in The Linux Foundation activities (26.0 percent).

SAS announcement in education initiatives

From the Research Triangle, some pleasant and positive news- http://triangle.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2010/10/04/daily27.html

“As a high tech company, SAS depends on a strong educational system for its long-term success,” said SAS CEO Jim Goodnight. “Beyond that, STEM education – developing skills for a knowledge economy – is critical to American competitiveness. Without emphasis on STEM, we sacrifice innovation and export our knowledge jobs to other countries.”

Goodnight and SAS have been active in education for years. The SAS co-founder and his wife, Ann Goodnight, launched college prep school Cary Academy in 1996, and the SAS inSchool program has developed educational software for schools since the mid-1990s. In 2008, Jim Goodnight made SAS Curriculum Pathways available free to all U.S. educators. The web-based service provides content in English, mathematics, social studies, science and Spanish.

SAS is the only Triangle-based company among the Change the Equation corporate partners, but the group includes several other companies with a significant Raleigh-Durham presence: chief among them IBM (NYSE: IBM), GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK), and Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO).

Poem- El Martini

Cocktail Glass (Martini): The traditional cock...
Image via Wikipedia

About 76,000 times and in 0.18 seconds

my friend, the google, does me inform,

are results for the keywords search poem on martini,

dampens enthusiasm for another poetic tome.

What can I say- that hasnt been said before,

760 thousand times about you and more,

Shaken and Stirred by Mr Bond,

sometimes dirty and mostly dryly spawned.

El Martini is here   to stay,

ladies and gentlemen, your host for the evening today.

Sip the cold, and smooth flavor,

add some olives – or green apples savor.

dont drink too much,

this is art as a drink,

sip martini slowly,

pause and blink.

Purge thoughtful plans today,

schemes and chores for another day.

El Martini strums a mean guitar,

how exotic, this stranger from afar.

still I pause, down two cups for the road,

having started, I need to finish this ode.

El Martini- has finished his song,

Mesmerized we happily clap along,

As he bows, we ask for a last request.

An encore would be terrific, no less.
