SPSS bought by Big Blue

SPSS Inc maker of PASW series of analytics softwares is being bought by IBM ( unless Oracle spikes this deal too). IBM is seeking a play in the rapidly growing analytics market and is also a strategic partner to WPS ( who makes the Base SAS alternative SAS language software).

In a personal note- I just entered University of Tennessee as a statistics student.

For the past one week I have been fending off repeated denial of service attacks on Decisionstats.com

My email addresses are widely known thanks to my participation on technical forums and my willingness to reach out and make friends ( 8500+ on Linkedin alone).

While the attacks were particularly vicious including email accounts, server changes, ip addresses to deny certain geographies, poisoned RSS feed/scripts, and scripts in folders to re direct posts.

Thanks to the fine team supporting me and some friendly advice from bloggers at Google- the worst is over. I have not hesitated to bash Google at will over its big size and even added a few cartoons on them – (even now I think they should sell Orkut to Facebook and add Twitter to create a spinoff Google Social Media for an IPO and take that particularly search and advertising)

But Google Search and Gmail and Google Analytics and Particularly Youtube are free- and thanks to them knowledge has spread way around the world. Also working behind the scenes the Google team spends a huge amount fighting spam and all for free. Or a bit of advertising on a website.

Thanks a lot Google men, and here is a You Tube video ( which you may have seen many times before but still) that celebrates the one ness of a global online community ( despite the occasional sith attacks)

Saving Sergei Sergeivich

One of the most brilliant mathematics students of all time was a person named Sergey Brin. Today at 36 years old, and more billions than he ever cares for- he should ponder his mother’s wish for him to see him complete his Phd is more important or is his own indispensability to Google. The Google share price having fallen by 50 % over the past one year, what more could it fall.

An year or two is all it takes, and with his genetic tendency to Alzheimer’s disease – time is running out for Sergey Brin to leave the board room for the classrooms he left one decade ago. If Google cannot take one year without him, then Google is not as stable as we think.

What if Einstein started opening startups, or Fermi decided joining Board room was important than theorems- Where would we all be ?

In any case, this is a Facebook cause –

Transitioning out

Dear readers beginning today I would be transitioning out the duration of my posts. I am doing this as I focus on writing code and developing some applications. Any interviews etc in transit or any commercial contracts to post would be honored, but effective August 15,2009 I would be free from any obligation to earn money at the cost of my research.

I would be joining a University ( Name not yet Finalized) in the Western Hemisphere for my further education. You may see a very occasional post after that but it would be free to reproduce for all purposes with just a credit line and link for credit.

Bulls ,Bears ,Tigers and Asses

Bull and bear in front of the Frankfurt Stock ...

Behold the once mighty Bear Sterns

One haughty, now sold for pennies in turn

Its a bear market they say,

Which made Bear Sterns fall away.

The Bulls were rampaging ,

for many a year or two.

Now its the bears turn,

to ravage me and you.

The tiger economies ,

are falling like pussy cats,

As exotic mortages ,

turn fearless men into scared rats.

In between , you will

find an occasional investment guru /ass too.

Promises to know it all, seen it all,

Pontification on TV for you.

Is this a market, we ask,

It seems like a jungle out there,

Leave us in peace, O Wise Ass,

Screw the bulls, and Kill the bear.
