New Search Engine ?

Here is a new search engine called Kosmix which claims to help make the world more organized. Now I gave it the Google story test which means I compared it’s results to Google’s results for

1) Google / Kosmix

2) Jim Goodnight /Sergey Brin

3) Regression

4) Data Mining

Results were frighteningly good. Some screenshots are below. What Kosmix does is aggregate searches across various platforms like the Net, and adds Images, Videos Results so it looks like a report compiled on specific search word rather than a list of links like Google does.

Take a look.

Clearly Kosmix is the winner because it adds Google Search, You Tube search and Google Blog Search results as well to its results. I have talked a long time back on the need for Google to give more customization especially for business research users ( see item 10 b).

Google continues to be a list of Ranked web pages, while Kosmix is a new organized information source.I just hope it does not end up like www.cuil.com which started with a  big hype and is now claiming to be the biggest search engine in the world with the largest index  , but not the biggest users I guess.

Any search engine that places a category of Indian film actors when you search for “Ajay Ohri” can not do too well ! Period.

Google Chrome wont work with Google Analytics

As the screenshot shows ..it treats Google Analytics Terms of Service as unreliable content…..a Freudian coding error…?

Linked In takes on Yahoo AND Google (Groups)

From The Linked in Email

“This Friday, we will be adding several much-requested features to your group:

Discussion forums: Simple discussion spaces for you and your members. (You can turn discussions off in your management control panel if you like.)
Enhanced roster: Searchable list of group members.
Digest emails: Daily or weekly digests of new discussion topics which your members may choose to receive. (We will be turning digests on for all current group members soon, and prompting them to set to their own preference.)
Group home page: A private space for your members on LinkedIn. ”

This pitches LI and its 25 million members squarely into the Google groups, Yahoo Groups , List Groups category.
The additional server costs would be managed by the infusion of private equity earlier this year.
Competition just grew hotter.Web 2.0 just became cooler.

And the consumer. He is loving it.

Money for Nothing

Try and use Microsoft Live Search but only if searching for buying stuff AND US based. The cash back offer is cool stuff- MS is really using the 44 Billion they saved when the big G spiked the MS to Y deal.

Knowledge by Google :Knol

A recnet product by Google is Knol (http://knol.google.com) . A knol is a unit of knowledge. As you can see from the features below, it is more like a wikipedia , or a collbrative scholarly tool . It has customized options for the kind of license you want, your self rating , viewer’s rating, collbration enabled or not. An extremely nifty tool, but hosted by the big G will have its share of suspicions among the academic community. Here is the snapshot of an empty knol page. And here is a link to a knol created by me at http://knol.google.com/k/ajay-ohri/data-mining-through-cloud-computing/d8o4tiw9xa68/3
